Introduction to the course
This course is designed to help learners move onto a vocational course in an area where they would like to build a career or onto an apprenticeship. Learners study English, maths and employability qualifications and attend 3 days a week. You will have the opportunity to do work experience or work tasters with local employers, focusing on areas which match your career aspirations. There are weekly enrichment sessions which include such things as a visit to the Houses of Parliament, job fairs or visiting employers. Guest speakers are invited and these range from health and lifestyle advice and guidance to inspirational entrepreneurs. Learners build up life skills such as budgeting, healthy eating knowledge and travel planning. You will build a CV and practise interview skills so that you are confident when you go foward into college or into employment as an apprentice. The class size is small and learners work within a very supportive environment. Many learners who may not have enjoyed the school environment, thrive within this supportive group with plenty of pastoral support provided where necessary.
What will I learn?

You will study maths and English and gain functional skills qualifications or GCSE (depending on prior attainment and initial assessment). You will study topics such as personal financial planning, effective communication, healthy living, working as a team, personal presentation, interview skills, how to deal with problems, environmental awareness, alcohol awareness. There is also an opportunity to complete work experience with a local employer.
