Every year ‘Children and Young People Now’ run an awards ceremony to celebrate projects, staff and young people who they feel have gone above and beyond in one of 22 categories. The decisions as to the short listing and who wins the awards are made by a combination of the directors involved with Children and Young People Now, special guests and children and young people judges.
In August 2015, Achieving for Children put the SEND Champions forward for a Children and Young People Now’s Youth Work Award and in September we found out that along with eight other fantastic projects from up and down the country, the SEND Champions were shortlisted for the Youth Work Award!
This was an opportunity we just couldn’t miss, so on Thursday the 26th two of the Champions, Joe and Duncan, alongside Participation Officers Grace and Tom went to the awards ceremony at the Hurlingham Club for a night celebrating some of the best projects from across the country across 22 categories.
It was a pleasure to hear more about what is happening around the country and it was privilege to be part of the evening. What made the night even better was that two other AfC projects has also been shortlisted so we got to spend the evening with some of our brilliant colleagues from the Youth Service.
Here’s what Joe and Duncan had to say about the evening:
Joe: I am very privileged to have been given the opportunity to attend the awards ceremony. Although we didn’t win, I had a fantastic time! The building was beautiful with a stylish glass dome on the roof and rows of palm trees! We were also provided with delicious food that was all elegantly presented – my favourite was mango parfait for pudding, which is like a blend of yoghurt and ice-cream. I am hugely proud to have taken an active role in the Champions project, alongside my fellow Champions and the Participation Team.
Duncan: On the 26th of November we attended an awards dinner. It was a great experience. One we will take with us for the rest of our lives.
