How AfC helps young people access opportunities
↵We aim to support young people with SEND into adulthood with paid employment, good health, independent living options and friends, relationships and community inclusion - outcomes which have been set nationally by the government. We will work with young people and their families and our partners, to improve life chances for young people.
These pages provide information on support available to explore and access vocational opportunities that can provide a pathway into employment from your individual starting point.
14 to 25 Service
The teams within the 14 to 25 service work in partnership to deliver positive outcomes for young people. The role of each team is described below.
14 to 25 team
The 14 to 25 team works closely with the Preparing for Adulthood team and social care and health teams in managing the funding process to support learners with high needs into independent specialist providers and further education providers.
The Team coordinate and delivers AfC’s Next Steps programme to young people with SEND in participating schools across years 9 to 11 and to young people with EHCPs living in Kingston and Richmond Local Authority areas.
The team also tracks and identifies young people who are not in employment, education or training (NEET) and signposts them to additional support and guidance.
Education Business Partnership
The Education Business Partnership’s SEND Vocational Pathways Coordinator supports young people with EHCPs to access provision that can begin their pathway to employment.
The support that can be provided includes, research of local apprenticeships, traineeships and vocational training options, help to complete applications, accompanying young people to interviews and induction days, support and activities to prepare for the workplace.
If you feel you would benefit from this support please contact your Preparing for Adulthood (PfA) coordinator and ask them to make a referral on your behalf.

Preparing for Adulthood Team
The Preparing for Adulthood teams, works closely with the 14 to 25 and Education Business Partnership teams. The coordinators make referrals to the Positive Directions programme and the Vocational Pathways Coordinator to help young people get support to achieve their employment goals.

Way 2 Work
Way to Work are AfC's internal training provider. They offer apprenticeship opportunities in Child Care, Business Administration, Customer Service and Supporting Teaching and learning in schools. Their vacancies are displayed on their website. They can also work with employers to develop vacancies.
