On 11 March, the Department for Education (DfE) approved bids submitted by Achieving for Children on behalf of the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames and the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames for a special school to open in each borough. 
Both schools will provide 90 places. The Kingston school will be designated as ASD-specific and will be for children and young people aged four to 19. The Richmond school will be for children and young people aged seven to 19 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.
The next stage of the process is to engage high-quality education providers to run the two schools.
