We are looking for a passionate & enthusiastic, Level 3 qualified, pre-school assistant to join our dedicated team in providing high quality early years education & care, under the direction of the pre-school leader. Duties will include:

To be a key person to a small group of children

You are

Ideally, English and some German Speaker with experience in teaching bilingual children from 3 years old.

The Job

Curriculum Developments and Delivery

Deputy Management:

Check orders for equipment and resources, prior to orders being placed.
Update the website and Intranet so that information is always current.

Act in place of the manager in his/her absence under the guidance of Children’s Services Manager of other senior manager.
Support manager to recruit, induct and train staff in line with the Recruitment Policy and national standards set by Ofsted
Conduct Annual Performance reviews/probation reviews.

Support manager to manage rotas, staff cover, and absences and sickness.
Complete health and safety checks on a daily basis.
Support audits for the Pre-school
Risk assess the garden areas twice a day.
Report defects to centre manager and monitor the progress.
Cover for pre-school staff in cases of sickness, breaks and annual leave.
Child Care

· Ensure each child is regarded as an individual, listened to, have his or her feelings respected and opinions valued.

· Be responsible for the safety and well-being of each child whilst on YMCASPG premises during operating hours.

· Ensure all the provisions environment is welcoming and friendly and demonstrates YMCASPG’s Equal Opportunities Policy.

· Ensure each child is given praise and encouragement, opportunities to succeed in environments where positive behaviour is promoted.

· As necessary work directly with the children to provide high quality care to children, covering breaks and shifts when staff are absent or due to sickness.

· Assess each child’s development, liaising with staff regularly. Highlighting any concerns or development delay and ensuring appropriate action is taken.

Finance and Budgetary Control

Review occupancy levels in the pre-school
Produce invoices using Nursery-In-A-Box
Support manager to enforce financial procedures.


Support manager to manage the receipt of fees through vouchers and other forms of payment ensuring all fees are paid promptly and in advance. In the event of any outstanding fees arise, that remittance is received in accordance with YMCA’s Late Payment Policy.

Collate accurate staff time sheets and authorise additional hours on CoreHR on a monthly basis in manager’s absence.

Support manager to ensure all purchase orders/invoices are processed through Compleat, YMCASPG’s procurement, purchasing and invoice system.

Upload monthly headcount to Local authority portal to enable accurate funding claims in manager’s absence

Communication

Resolve first step questions, issues, complaints or problems, escalating to the Pre-School Manager when necessary.
Answer the telephone and monitor and reply to emails and answer phone messages.
Update Nursery-In-A-Box with new staff and children’s details.
Follow up all enquiries regarding all places within 48 working hours of receipt.

Collate information for waiting list and registration packs for customers

Show prospective parents around promoting the benefits of the nursery.

Regularly liaising with parents and produce child assessments for parents’ evenings and two-year old checks.

Be an active participant in Manager’s Meetings and wider manager’s conferences.

Liaise with the Local Authority as and when required in manager’s absence.

· Represent the services on local committees if required and to build effective working relationships with relevant local agencies / providers of nursery care.

General – Line Managers

· Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation including Safeguarding, Confidentiality, Data Protection and Health and Safety guidelines and policies. Oversee all information provided to statutory agencies and the police.

· Promoting membership to both parents/carers and children and support membership events.

General – All Staff

Able to proficiently use IT systems, including working with databases, Microsoft office, email, internet

Attend all relevant training and development programmes.

Attend all relevant cross departmental, and Corporate Office meetings as and when required.

Undertake any other duties as requested by line manager.
