Childcare for key workers and vulnerable children

The advice from the government is that nurseries, childcare settings and childminders are included in the education setting guidance and will remain open where they can to support key workers and vulnerable children.

The following settings are offering limited childcare to parents of critical workers and vulnerable children. Availability is subject to regular change and the list will be updated on an ongoing basis. If you have any problems in finding childcare please ring the Early Years Service on any of the following numbers: Tel: 07566 766062 / Tel: 07920 576138 / Tel: 07961 042053 or Email: early.years@achievingforchildren.org.uk

Things to consider if you are thinking about your own childcare arrangements

Many parents and carers will need to make decisions about whether to leave their child alone for short or longer periods. Here is the best advice from the NPSCC Home Alone guidance

Parents and carers are responsible for their children and will need to take decisions about childcare. Please ensure that childminders are suitably trained and DBS checked, as well as private tutors or clubs which may be used.

Some parents and carers may become unwell themselves. It is very important that suitable carers are chosen for your children, if close family members are not available. We recommend that you follow the Public Health England advice and do not ask vulnerable or older relatives to provide care for your children at this time.

Private Fostering is a term used when close family members or legal guardians are not used to care for children for more than 28 days. The SPA (Single Point of Access) would need to be informed to assess the safety of this placement for children aged until 16 years of age.
