Open canoe and kayak - beginners (working towards British Canoeing one star skill level)
This course is ideal for people new to the sport or with limited prior experience wishing to develop their basic skills. The one star is a flat water award reflecting basic boat control in any type of boat - solo and tandem open canoe, general purpose moving water sea kayaks and touring kayaks. The course runs April - November.
Open canoe and kayak - improvers (working towards British Canoeing two star skill level)
This flat water award covers a range of kayak and canoe based skills. The course looks at developing the fundamental paddle sport skills and understanding of paddle-boat-water interaction. It is aimed at those already able to apply the basic strokes or who have achieved the British Canoeing one star. The course runs summer and autumn.

Open canoe and kayak – intermediate (working towards British Canoeing three star skill level)
The British Canoeing three star skill level has become a discipline specific award reflecting personal competence with the focus on boat and environment. These courses usually run on request – please contact us. They can also be incorporated into our programmed trips. The course usually runs October - November.
British Canoeing Foundation Safety and Rescue
The course provides you with the key safety and rescue skills required to operate safely in a sheltered water environment. You will be able to deal with common emergencies. These skills will then form the basis of all safety and rescue training throughout the BCU scheme. These courses usually run on request – please contact us.
British Canoeing Aquatic First Aid
This course provides the basic level of knowledge and skills to give First Aid in a range of emergency situations within a reasonable distance of medical assistance. (It also gives British Canoeing coaches an appropriate basic first aid award). These courses usually run on request – please contact us.
