About residential courses
We offer residential trips of three or five days duration in the Upper Thames area and Wye Valley. These are a wonderful opportunity for children and young people to experience sports activities within a countryside setting. They can help young people to work well as part of a team and form life long memories. The course also contributes to a school’s PSE (or equivalent) lesson aims.
Residential weeks are all-inclusive. The cost is per pupil and covers:
Upper Thames Residential Experience (3 days)
This is a three day open canoe and camping exploration of the Upper Thames which is renowned as one of the most beautiful parts of the River Thames. With a spirit of adventure pupils have fun learning new skills and spend two nights under canvas.
Pupils observe and study the many species of wildlife at very close quarters in wonderful scenery, and have the chance to view one of England's most famous cities, Oxford, uniquely from the River Thames.
Wye Valley Adventure (5 days)
The Wye Valley Adventure is for those aged 12 and above. The course consists of two days of water sports and camp craft familiarisation at the Albany Park Centre. Then on the third day the group travel to Wye Valley for:
- 1 day using open canoes in Wye Valley river trip
- 1 day of mountain bike trail riding in surrounding woodland area of the Wye Valley
- 1 day kayaking on Symonds Yat rapids - an introduction to moving water in a safe environment with instruction from BCU qualified senior staff.
