Description of activity

Kingston Music Service (KMS) provides instrumental and vocal music lessons to young people and adults in Kingston. We offer lessons both in schools and at our evening and Saturday morning music centres.
In addition, we run a number of bands, orchestras and other ensembles for young people to make music together and organise regular concerts and tours.

Learn about music technology and record your own music with the support of our dedicated technicians in our recording studio at the Hook Centre.

We hire musical instruments and also offer an instrument repair service.

KMS is a non-profit making organisation, receiving funding from Kingston Council and Arts Council England.

KMS is a member of the UK Association for Music Education - Music Mark.

We have a small amount of funding to help parents and carers on a low income. This means we can give children in Year 3 and above who attend an RBK school, bursaries (discounts on fees).

The criteria to apply for bursary is as follows:

Child must be eligible for Free School Meals*
Child must currently attend an RBK school
Students will have a 20 minute individual or 30 minute group lesson only (this can only be extended to 30 or 40 minutes at the request of a tutor/parent if the child has made sufficient progress and is committed)
60% reduction in fees (applied to lesson as well as instrument hire)
Free membership of an ensemble for one year and at 60% reduction in fees thereafter
Only applicable to one lesson per student (so one instrument)
Child must be in Year 3 or above
