Description of activity
Kingston Heritage Service includes both Kingston Museum and Kingston History Centre.
Kingston Museum was founded in 1904 for public enjoyment and education. Over the last century our collections and displays have changed but our aims remain the same: to tell the story of the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames through objects, images and text in an informative, inclusive and enjoyable way.
The Museum has three permanent galleries: Ancient Origins, Town of Kings and the Muybridge Bequest. Our Art Gallery upstairs has changing exhibitions throughout the year, many of which are produced by local community groups. We run workshops for all ages and other special events, including talks organised by the Friends of Kingston Museum & Heritage Service and school holiday activities.
Kingston History Centre (previously known at the Local History Room) is the local history library and archive for the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames. Any member of the public, private researcher or student is welcome to visit the History Centre during normal opening hours. The collections are free to browse but are reference only. Reproductions are available for a fee.
