Children’s Hearing Services Working Group (CHSWG) - Richmond

Organisation/Service Details

Organisation Details

Description of activity

Each local authority in England has a CHSWG. These groups are composed of all the services which support hearing impaired children in the area. CHSWGs meet regularly to discuss ways to improve provision and integrate their services effectively.

The Richmond CHSWG brings together all the services that are involved in supporting deaf children in Richmond borough. Richmond CHSWG members work together to continuously monitor and improve local services for deaf children and their families.

CHSWG meetings are attended by representatives from many services, including newborn hearing screening, paediatric audiology, speech and language therapy, education services, social care, healthcare commissioners and both local and national voluntary organisations.

In addition to these professionals, CHSWGs have active involvement from local parents of hearing-impaired children. One of the most important functions of the CHSWG is to ensure that the services provided locally match the needs of the families who use them.

Richmond's CHSWG needs more parents and hearing impaired young people to take an active role in shaping services for hearing impaired children in the area by joining the Richmond CHSWG.

If you live in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames and you have a hearing-impaired child, or you are a hearing impaired young person yourself, please consider joining us. You are very welcome to attend one of our meetings to see if you want to be part of this group. In Richmond we have three meetings a year, usually held in Teddington. Meetings usually last approximately two hours. Your participation would be greatly appreciated!

At CHSWG meetings individual children are not discussed. However any member can raise any concerns and can put forward any suggestion on how to improve the service. It is also an opportunity to praise the service for what works well.

If you are interested in taking part in a CHSWG meeting please contact the Audiology department with the contact details below, or email the chair on .

If you have an idea for how to improve or better-integrate services for deaf children in Richmond, but cannot join us for a meeting, please also contact Ellen Purton on
