Free after School Groups in Richmond and Kingston for children with complex health and/or disabilities.
Flyers is an after school club for children aged 5-11 with complex health and/or physical disabilities.
Capacity : 9 children (1 to 1 ratio).
What it offers:
The children and young people who attend the Flyer Groups develop their social skills, life skills and communication through structured activities and play. The activities are very broad-ranging, from imaginary adventures and singing to role playing and are often designed to help foster friendship and participation,
When it happens:
Every Tuesday 4.00 – 5.30 at The Geneva Road Centre in Kingston and on Mondays in Richmond.
Flyers runs 50 weeks per year (closed for 2 weeks over Christmas) and is a free service.
Examples of group activities include:
Singing, poems, stories, art and craft, games, imaginary adventures* – role playing that explores roles and emotions, activities using Makaton. We are constantly looking for imaginative new ways to make all our activities accessible, and make full use the garden, and our sensory room and sensory toys. We ensure that Flyers activities are accessible for all the children who attend
* The imaginary adventures are particularly popular. To take one example, the Flyers recently ‘went all Egyptian’ – making pipe cleaner pharaohs, writing their names in hieroglyphics, creating scarab beetles out of foil, and using our interactive floor and projectors in the sensory room to trek through the desert hunting for hidden Egyptian treasures.
