1 in 10 young people have a diagnosed mental heath problem with many more struggling but diagnosed, in Richmond we have very high achieving schools but young people are struggling with the pressure to succeed with 2 in 3 young people reporting that the pressure to succeed is having a negative impact on their wellbeing.

Richmond has high rates of self harm and bullying in Richmond schools is a big problem with 1 in 3 young people reporting being bullied either in person or online.

With both CAMHS and Off the Record having long waiting lists young people in need of support are lacking any place to go to find was to manage their metal health. 25% of young people in Richmond do not know where to go to access support while 27% feel that nothing could help them.

About our work

Richmond Borough Minds Youth Service has been working with schools and youth organisations in London since 2015. We run FREE wellbeing and resilience workshops and assemblies to provide young people with tools to promote good mental health.

We're especially keen to increase our work with Richmond secondary schools and colleges.

Volunteers needed

 Do you work with young people over 18?

We're looking for new volunteers to help deliver our workshops and support the youth service as we expand and add exciting new projects to the service. Full training is given and expenses incurred during volunteering will be reimbursed, references are available after 3 months of volunteering.

We encourage people with lived experience of mental health difficulties to apply to volunteer with us to share their experiences to motivate and inspire others.

What's in it for you?


  •  Evidence based tools for young people - all our workshops have been designed to help maximise the benefit to both young  people and those in supporting roles. We use evidence based research in all our workshops to increase the impact of the work we do. We have a high rate of success with our workshops with young people giving an average score of 8 out of 10 for learning ways to look after their wellbeing as a result of our workshops. 
  • Real life examples - all our volunteers have lived experience of mental health difficulties and each workshop will contain an element of volunteers personal stories. By using real life examples this helps to make the workshops more relatable to the young people attending.
  • Signposting and support - we provide details of organisations and resources for all attendees ranging from crisis lines to information on relationships, exam stress or sexuality and gender struggles. Each participant will also receive an activity leaflet with reminders of the subjects covered in the workshop that they can fill in and keep. 
Exam Stress

Exams can be a challenging for young people's wellbeing, our stress and anxiety workshop has been adapted to include tips on managing exam stress and reducing anxiety around exams.
